I go to the gym most days, usually in the afternoon, and often wind up washing my hair twice a day. I wanted a shampoo that would clean my hair thoroughly post-gym, but I also needed something gentle, so I wouldn't totally ravage my hair through repeated washing. Since I use Curly Wurly and American Cream sometimes and my hair always feels really healthy when I do, I decided to try this with Veganese. I'm really pleased with it; my hair feels soft and shiny, even when I use it every day, and it also seems to control the frizz in my wavy/curly hair. Also, my hair hasn't started to feel dry or brittle as it often does when I wash it excessively. I like this so much that I might start using it at home, too!

I feel the need to write this review because I don't want anyone in the same boat as me. I have been suffering from hair pulling (trichotillomania) since I was a child. People who pull their hair do so because of an intolerance to a yeast that builds up in their scalp. I bought this shampoo without thinking, really. I didn't read enough about it. I knew it used beer, but I didn't connect that beer contains yeast. Needless to say, this product made my hair pulling urges go CRAZY. I could just feel the itching on my scalp. Hair pulling is fairly common, so I wanted to warn everyone. Do not use this - use a dandruff shampoo, or a tea tree oil shampoo.

As for the product aside from all that, it was just okay. The smell is pretty nasty, but at least it's mild. I noticed a little more shine that usual.

After weeks of daily I Love Juicy use, my normally oily hair has transformed into a dry (albeit clean) fluff. I tried Rehab with no success, and even though the SA really didn't think Cynthia Sylvia Stout would be good for me (saying it would weigh my hair down too much), it turns out that it's FANTASTIC! It smoothed out my frizz, added wonderful shine and a bit of volume and just restored my hair overall and did NOT weigh it down too much. It smells a little like soy sauce or teriyaki sauce, but once I put some conditioner on my hair, the food smell was neutralized and my hair smelled great. I would definitely recommend this for anyone with frazzled or dry hair.

I have fairly thick frizzy hair and have tried several other Lush products to replace Pantene in smoothing my hair. And this is the one. I will be coming back for the extra large bottle.

My goal is to try and give you a complete and helpful review so here goes..My hair is more curly than wavy but is not coarse or thick and is prone to frizz. It is long and tends to dry quickly due to the length. I always have to use styling product in my hair in order to control my frizz.
Since using this shampoo, I find that it does a wonderful job at removing product residue from my hair at first I felt as though it was drying my hair but have come to realize that the other shampoos use waxes to give you the feeling of clean however these waxes only build up. This shampoo really clarifies my hair and does not dry at all.
I love the scent it is something that is not compared to any other shampoo scent out there. You will definitely have a unique scent of your own. The scent lasts for days, literally.
The best change is the ease of frizz. I still use mousse in my hair but my curls look almost like ringlets using the same mousse I have used for years but the results are so much better when I wash with this shampoo.

I love this for my brown hair. It was said by another reviewer that it made hair darker, I think that is so true. It smells amazing, I just love the smell, earthy...and it makes my hair behave again!!! I have very short hair and I push it to one side and this makes it behave and go the way I want...and the texture is fantastic. Sometimes I use Jungle conditioner if it makes me a little dry, but thats ok, since I love the smell of Jungle anyway! Very good shampoo and you only need about a dime size amount.

I bought this to use with the American Cream conditioner on my long, healthy, wavy hair that is fine but there is tons of it. I found it to be a good daily cleanser - it cleaned thoroughly without drying things out, and the combo of the two products gave enough control without too much weight. That said, it was a very odd scent combination. I wasn't fond of the scent of either of these even individually (this literally smells like a dark beer but not quite as full bodied as, say, an actual glass of Irish stout). I was prepared to live with it for amazing results but it was more like I felt this shampoo (and the conditioner) didn't do anything bad to my hair, but they also didn't make it look better. It looked like my hair, just clean. I would have liked to see some added shine or maybe some curl definition from frizz control or SOMETHING that was a positive difference. However, a big pro for me was that I was able to get generous samples of both in store to find this out so no money wasted. Always love that about Lush and it makes every product worth a shot because you may find your holy grail and what have you got to lose?

This shampoo is incredible. I've used literally hundreds of salon shampoos, trying to find something that would add shine to my thick but fine and unruly hair. Lo and behold, Cynthia does the trick. It doesn't lather much (which is a good thing, because lather means too many drying detergents) and gives a rich, hydrated feel to hair. Plus, the shine is unbelievable- even my 10 year old brother commented on how shiny and nice my hair looks. As for the smell, to me it's like an old fashioned saloon, which is kind of cool. And it wears off quickly if you use a perfumed conditioner like American Cream. Just get it, you won't be disappointed.

I was a little skeptical about using shampoo with beer in it (worried about smelling like a brewery), but I took a chance on this and I absolutely love it!

The smell is lemony and not overtly beery.It makes my thick, wavy hair noticeably softer, bouncier, and shinier; others have even commented on how my hair looks better since I started using it. My boyfriend's used it on his fine, straight hair and he says it works great too. It lathers really well, so the small bottle I got lasted for quite awhile. Definitely one of my favorite LUSH hair products!

I think that this shampoo, while nice, is priced similarly to many of the most expensive luxury salon hair products on the market today and yet does not do nearly as good a job caring for the hair. The smell is fresh and nice (to me) and the shampoo is very good for a deep clean but ultimately this product is drying, and quite stripping of color. I like many Lush hair products and feel they're worth the money but not this one. I'd spend my money first on Pureology or Davines or any number of gentler similarly priced (yet admittedly overmarketed and over packaged) salon shampoos before this.

Cynthia Sylvia Stout was the first Lush product I bought, ever, after I wandered into the Covent Garden store in London and asked for something to help my hair survive the London winter, which was of course rainy and damp and turning my normally well-behaved curly hair into a gigantic frizzy nightmare. That was a few years ago now and I still buy it because it did so much more than calm frizz. In addition to giving my hair good weight and shine, the yeast in the stout is perfect for scalps that get occasionally itchy but don't require a full-on dandruff shampoo. Back when I first bought it I had waist-length hair and could use it every day without getting too much build-up but now that I have short hair I have to alternate it with something to keep it from weighing my hair down too much. I also adore the smell, it's lovely and earthy and it hangs around all day, let the haters hate. This is the one that turned me into a Lush devotee overnight.

The henna (I use caca rouge) does a pretty good job of getting rid of the frizzies, but after being pretty mean to my hair a couple of days ago when I was combing it, it went pretty frizzy again. The frizz went away after the first use of CSStout. This combined with Jungle solid conditioner did wonders for my hair! Perfect combo for my thick, wavy-to-curly knot-loving hair :)

Hate the smell...BUT...I can deal with it because this stuff is AMAZING. I've been washing my hair daily Instead of every three days because it just isn't drying at all and my hair feels fab. Hate the smell. It smells like something good that was allowed to spoil...but I live with it since it works, I only need a little, and lush conditioner covers the smell.

For those that have natural unruly curls, you know that you will try about anything in hopes that it is the miracle product you have been looking for. This shampoo is it! I use it daily along with my conditioner and my curls have never looked better. The only thing I would change is the scent as I'm not a stout lover. If it smelled like Daddy-O it would be perfect! This product did everything it promised to, my hair took the shampoo really well and just felt healthier after using it. The only problem, however, is the smell. I absolutely just could not stand it at all. It smelt like I had washed my hair with stale beer. I personally think it smells different once on your head than it did in the bottle.

I just used this shampoo for the first time today, I had been looking for a gentle shampoo that will help with my frizzy, wavy hair. I was expecting a not-so-fabulous smell after reading the reviews, but it doesn't smell too bad, just like beer with a bit of lemon. It lathered up great in the shower and made my hair nice and shiny, while defining my waves and curls. I have color treated hair (dark brown/black) and I noticed it had a slighly reddish tint in the light, hopefully it won't get much lighter. The only downside is I can still smell the stout in my hair. I use American Cream conditioner but the stout definitely over powers that. Overall it does great things for my hair, but I'm not crazy about the lingering stout smell.

My mom used this on her greying hair and it helped revive her hair after a few uses although she was not particularly fond of the masculine smell.
Now, on the other hand, my guy friend Adam loves this stuff. He's a beer fan so the lingering stout smell is great to him and he only needs to use a pea size amount for good lathering on his short hair. It leaves his hair soft, vibrant, and voluminous.

Ok, so...when you're looking at product reviews you are looking to find someone who has hair like yours and how it affected the hair. Like a Glimps into the future of your hair health... So here's my story...
MY HAIR: It is very short. I would say maybe 3-5 inches long...I am working towards growing it out into a cute little A-line (bob). It's normal thickness but I don't have a lot of hair, so you could say it's "somewhat fine". I have highlights and brown hair.

I LOVE THIS PRODUCT!!! I have worked at spas, retails stores, and the works! I have used designer brands,nioxin, and store bought stuff...all in an effort to make my hair healthier, happier, thicker, and grow quicker!

I just bought this product and I must say a) I can't wait for each shower. I LOVE THE SMELL...Yes, it smells like beer, but the lemon in it really opens up and is a very sweet, intoxicating scent. It lathered up better than ANYTHING I have ever used. It left my hair soft and pretty much untangled (BEFORE CONDITIONER...THAT NEVER HAPPENS!!!). Then I used Veganese as my conditioner...my boyfriend LOVES smelling my hair when I get out!!!

You should totally get it. It will make your hair smooth, soft, smelling amazing, and healthier with each wash!
