Cocoa Butter

As well as having its own conditioning benefits, cocoa butter helps the henna cling to each hair, maximizing its effect. That's one of the things that makes our henna so much better than anybody else's.

Persian Henna

We use the finest Persian henna, which has been used since ancient times to dye the skin and hair. The leaves are dried and ground into a powder and it is this, mixed with conditioning cocoa butter, which forms the basis of our Cacas.

Coffee Lustre.

Choose Caca Brun for sleek, beautiful hair with rich, dark brown tones. Brunettes can use Caca Brun for its fantastic conditioning properties without seeing a drastic change to their natural colour.

Super shiny.

Because henna coats each individual hair, smoothing the cuticles and protecting it from damage, it is the ultimate conditioning treatment. Hennaed hair is strong, glossy and absolutely gorgeous.

I am not one to post comments on anything i purchase or try, but this i just had to. I was skeptical in trying Henna based on some of the reviews I had read. I couldn't be happier that i just jumped in and did it.

One thing that caused me to pause was if you hair is chemically treated to wait 6 to 8 weeks (or longer) before using a Henna Product. i waited 6 weeks post chemical coloring. I have naturally dark brown hair, not ash brown, dark brown with red hints in the sun. I love my hair stylist but she is very hard to get an appointment with. The color she used never really dried out my hair (which is thin yet coarse .. yes.. its a possible combination). In an "emergency" situation, i went to someone different. The color she used not only dried my hair within weeks of getting it colored, but the base color in the brown she used was yellow so I had these funky yellow-ish streaks where my grey was starting to grown in. I was a bit scared because i didnt know what color they would turn. Keep in mind, i color my hair all one color. I do not highlight or low light my hair.

this is what i did.

i crushed the whole henna block in a double-zip lock bag and mashed it with a meat tenderizer (good thing i double bagged as the inside bag tore due to me using the wrong side of the tenderizer.

I made a pot on good strong Italian blend BOLD flavored coffee. I added 2 cups of the hot coffee to the Henna along with 1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar and about 4 tablespoons of Cinnamon. I read the vinegar helps the bonding of the henna to the grey and the coffee gives it a warmer shade. Not sure if any of these items worked. (this was my maiden voyage) The cinnamon is supposed to help with the "smell" some people complain about, but i really liked it.. It reminded me of fresh cut grass on an early spring morning. Very plant-herbal smell. So i mixed all these ingredients together to about the consistency of brownie batter.

My Fiancee' brought home a hot plate that he uses in his lab. I placed the glass bowl with what looked like swamp sludge in it on the hot plate set to low. I redecorated the bathroom with newspapers on the floor, grabbed a chair and went to work.

My hair is below bra strap length and fairly one length. so i divided my hair into 6 sections.

I started with the back sections first. I purchased a hair color brush (for like 99 cents and a color applicator bottle for the same price with a thin spout at the end). So i mixed the henna with a plastic spoon, tested it for warmth, dipped my color applicator brush and started to "paint my hair". I think this was my first mistake. Before i even got to the ends of my hair, the henna was starting to dry and flake off.. so i had dried chunks starting to fall on the floor. So i moved from the brush to the applicator bottle. It was nice at first, then realized that i should have gotten one with a bigger spout. As the Henna started to cool, it became harder and harder to squeeze out.

So after fighting with the brush bottle combination, i just started scooping up the henna using my hands. Trying to get the dry henna soaked hair around my head was a chore, but as the henna got hotter and more liquified it became easier and easier to work with and massage thru my hair.

Phew that was done. I then wrapped my head in saran wrap, placed a shower cap on and went in the living room. I have a heating cap that i use when I deep condition my hair so I put that on as well. (I read Henna loves heat) and kept this on for about an hour and then id take a break and put it back on. I had a dark towel handy to catch the runny drips (which never really happened, or didn't realize it because i had my shower cap on.

I finished applying the Henna at 3:30 in the afternoon and started the rinsing process at 9:30 that evening.

I thought the rinsing was going to be bad but it really wasn't. i wet my hair, pumped a whole hand full of conditioner in my hands and worked it into the Henna. The conditioner really seemed to help break it up. So i conditioned twice (with some cheap conditioner i had), then shampooed twice and conditioned two more times (with my more expensive products).

I was amazed at the results. absolutely the shiniest and most gorgeous brown i have ever seen on my head. so this is the first 24 hours post Henna and I can already see where it has changed colors. My hair became shinier than yesterday, softer than yesterday and even more red than yesterday. it turned out to be an absolutely gorgeous color

i love this product. I will never go back to chemical dyes again.. my hair loves it and its amazing.

My only suggestions is to make sure the henna is on the warm-hot side. its easier to apply and try and get someone to help you (it just makes it that much easier) work fast and dont worry about the mess.

It wipes right off with water with out a stain or a streak. The shower was a bit trickier due to the non slip flooring and the cocoa butter cause a little issue, but nothing that soap didn't take off and bleach after i was done.

I can't wait to do another henna application. This time I might mix the Henna brun with the henna maroon or rouge (in a 2:1 ratio) four blocks of the brun and two blocks of either the maroon or rouge.

(thanks Amy at the St. Louis, West County store for some great advice)

The henna color was nice BUT after the henna wore off (a quick 3 weeks) - my porous highlighted strands were left blue-ish.

A recent rehighlight gave me even bluer highlights.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I was looking for a good hair dye that wouldn't add anything toxic to my system. I've used normal hair dyes before, several times, and enjoyed the results but not the smell of the chemicals or the thought that I had just willingly saturated my scalp with chemicals. I have naturally brunette hair that has auburn tendencies, so I wanted to see what henna would do to enhance the auburn. This stuff is wonderful! It smells lovely, in my opinion - like an herbal tea or something comfortingly earthy - far better than a chemical smell. The smell fades quickly too. The color is very subtle and natural. It isn't flat or fake looking. I chose this milder shade of henna because I wasn't sure I was ready for the redder kind, but once I've used all of this up I think I'll go for the red stuff. :-) I have very thick, longish hair, so I had to use a section and a half to be sure I saturated all of my hair. I let it sit in for about an hour and half, and had no difficulty washing it out. It left my hair glowing and incredibly silky and full feeling. The pots I used washed clean with hot water. I would be careful not to use anything plastic with this stuff, because it will soak up the dye and be very hard to get clean.
To sum it all up - I LOVE this stuff! :-D

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

Prior to using this product, I had been using pure powered henna for about a year. I loved the red color, but hadn't touched it up in a while and had some medium brown roots that I wanted to get rid of and also wanted to transition to a more subtle shade. My other complaint with the regular powered henna is that sometimes the lemon juice added during preparation really stings (my scalp and skin are SUPER sensitive). The cocoa butter in this product gives it a lovely feel upon rinse out. Normally, I don't shampoo for a few days after henna to give the color time to really set, but I would say that if you have fine hair, you need to shampoo after using caca, otherwise the cocoa butter is much too heavy. It gave a lovely deep brown/red tone after 2 hours (1 with cling wrap, 1 without) and conditioned amazingly well. Love it! Never going back to typical henna again.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

After reading most of the reviews on this product, I was a little turned off by all the negative comments about it being difficult to use. Once I watched the video provided above it looked simple enough to me, so I decided to try it out.

I chose to grate the henna into a powder because I have long hair and I figured it would be easier to mix and I could get it on my head while it was still hot. It worked out incredibly easy, I didn't use the double boiler I just added boiling hot water to my powdered henna and was able to get it into my hair within a few minutes. I also didn't make a huge mess in my bathroom. There were a few small splatters on the old towel I had below me. So I do suggest you put old newspaper or a towel you don't care about on the floor. But overall it was a fairly easy process, the hardest part was grating the henna. I decided to sleep with it in my hair over night, so I plastic wrapped my head and wore a shower cap to bed. I also used an old pillow case because you can't keep all your hair in there all night. When I woke up in the morning the henna was still fairly wet with some hard chunks in it. I used Big shampoo to get most of it out of my hair, and I followed with Retread. I then repeated washing and conditioning my hair again just to be safe. The results were fantastic, I got an even coverage and a fabulous shine with a rich coffee color. My hair was a faded dark chestnut brown when starting out so it wasn't a drastic change but it does looks awesome, and it's so soft! I also blow dry my hair every day and tend to get a lot of split ends, and most of my split ends were repaired from the henna. The only con to this product besides the amount of time you keep it in your hair was that the smell is really gross. I would definitely recommend this product to anyone looking for some beautiful hair that feels amazing.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

Amazing is the only word to explain this great product! I'm from the Dominican Republic so my hair is naturally very curly and "ethnic" I wear it curly and straight alternating depending on the time I want to invest. This product is worth the investment because it hydrates, conditions and colors your hair!!

I had plenty of questions going into the process:

Will the product effect my already chemically colored hair? My hair was a light brown hitting towards red and I had colored it about 6-8 weeks ago. I am very glad to say that my hair is just a solid brown now :) This product will not lighten your hair but it did make my hair look much better and healthier. I even look thiner because of the dark shiny color. Again not that dark but dark brown.

How to apply? It's messy to make but these blocks go a long way I used 3 blocks
and it cover my whole head, shoulder length hair. I applied the treatment one part of hair at a time and put the remainder all over. I rapped my hair with saran rap and put a plastic cap on. The lush store guy told me to leave it on for 1 1/2 hours. I left it on for about 2 hrs, went to the gym and even the sauna. I wanted to keep my hair hydrated because it's dry. I'm not sure if I sacrificed in color but my hair
definitely felt different: 1st super soft must be from the cacao in this product & 2nd even my curls had a less thick texture right after I took it off.

Will the color stick to my unruly dry hair? It did make it darker after 2 hrs, there is a slight difference in between my roots and my previously died hair but it's extremely minimal and no one but I know it's there. Love the color I got! It's perfect :)

I was surprised to see how many people commented on the odor of the henna. I found the smell pleasant while it does have a faint soil type scent I really kind of liked it. I recall using many types of commercial style hair dyes so potent it makes the user tear up so this was downright enjoyable. I will say though that it was as many have stated messy but once you throw down some newspaper this shouldn't detour anyone from purchasing. I just remember this is an alternative to chemical dyes so with that in mind it has been great. I have very thin hair and it took an extra day to rise out all the coco butter (which is one of the ingredients) which made my hair greasy but really I kind of took it as a leave in hair conditioner or mask. My hair was a sort of dirty blonde with a mousy brown hue. I used the color Brun and waited 4 hours (for a darker brown color) now my hair is a rich dark brown with light brown highlights, I love it!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

Having read all the comments and checked out you tube video's I felt pretty confident in using the caca. I went to the garage and used a hammer on half my block (three cubes)in double bagged zip locks. I didn't have the patience for grating. Then I placed a big coffee mug in a pot of boiling water was careful to not use metal near the henna only a wood spoon and even boiled my water to add in the microwave in a glass measuring cup. I had read some adverse reactions when you mix the henna in or with metal, mainly people commenting on they're hair turning green since I wanted to avoid that at all costs it worth doing. My hair just touches my shoulders has some sprinkling of gray in it and I'm in my mid 50's. It had been 20 years at least since I colored my own hair but in an effort to save money and use products less harmful I thought I'd give henna a try. My hair had some high lights from my last visit to my hair gal but that had been about 2 1/2 months ago. I should have done the test strip but that would have added another couple of hours to doing the process so I just went for it. Oh yeah.. the gal at LUSH suggested putting 1 cap full of apple cider vinegar to help the henna adhere to the gray's, that was the only thing I added other than the water. Everything I read said that henna likes heat so I took my mug out of its boiling water bath when it looked as smooth as possible then let it cool a bit before I applied it in my bathroom. Newspaper on the counter was enough for me. I used a paint brush to get the roots covered well then just slopped the rest on messaging it into my hair really good. I had a little left over so the amount was just right. I didn't cover my hair with plastic wrap since I wanted more brown tones than red, waited 1 1/2 hours rinsed most of the stuff out in our kitchen sink then took a shower but didn't use shampoo just conditioner about 3 times and all the grit came out fine. I didn't find the smell to be that bad. It IS messy but sure seems worth it as I was able to do it myself and saved a huge chunk of change. All in all I'm very happy with the results!!!

Although this product was a little messy and the smell is not the most pleasent, the results were completely worth it. I started out with heavily highlighted hair. Blonde highlights. My natural is a chestnut brown with a reddish gleam. I was thrilled when I washed off my "mud helmet" to see my natural colour back. My hair is so thick and healthy, my boyfriend can't stop running his fingers through it. Everyone has been giving me compliments. Even my mum who absolutly dislikes "hippy stuff" Deffinately will be using it agian. I figure I can stand the smell once every three months for hair that looks and feels this wonderful.

So I bought this product for the first time a week ago. I did my research an talk to my lushie consultant lol. I brought it home and decided not to great it like I was told I should because I didn't want to ruin my kitchen tools. So I decided to chop it. It didn't chop well but shaved off with the knife wich was great. I used my electric kettle to boil water and add it to my powdered henna. I mixed it to a pudding consistency then set up my bathroom for a mess. Applying was actually really easy. Yes a little messy but no more so then dying your hair with boxed products. I didn't wrap it because I was told I would get a darker brown if I left it exposed. I planned to leave it on for six hours and here's where I started to have problems. I sat down and notice that the smell was awful. But I decided to ignore it. After a couple of hours it started giving me a headache. It eventually got to the point where I had to wash it out or I was going to be sick. It washed out alright. I had a little of gritt in my hair that took multiple shampoos to get out. After that I let it dry naturally I do have to say that the color is amazing a nice dark brown. But it's been almost a week and my hair still smells like the henna. So I live the color but I don't think I will ever beable to use this product again because of how awful the smell is. So please lush fix this and I will jump right back on the henna wagon.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I panicked twice while using this product: Once when I saw the horrible mess I was making in my tub, and the second time when I fell asleep for too long with the henna in my hair and woke up to find that my hair was coated in a mossy green color.

I have dark brown hair, a little on the lighter side for Asian hair. I wanted a product that would maintain my natural color while covering up the horrendous patches of gray that were showing up.

    Procedure:
This product is fairly easy to prepare, but NOT easy to apply by yourself. The bars were crumbly enough to separate into small pieces without having to use a grater, and dissolved easily in hot water. I took my bucket of hair goop into my tub, flipped my hair over, and starting applying from the roots. The procedure seemed straight-forward enough in my head, but I soon found myself frantically shoving handfuls of mud-like substance to my hair to prevent the product from getting cold and unworkable. I have long hair, and a lot of the product ended up in my tub, the walls of my bathroom, and all over my body. Maybe it was the amount of water I used, but the product was fairly thick and not too easy to work through my hair. I covered my head in disposable shower caps (I needed four to cover front/back/each side), was planning to wash it out in 6 hours, but ended up falling asleep after waiting out five hours! When I woke up, the henna had been in my hair for about ten hours! I frantically ran to the bathroom and tore the shower caps off of my head, and saw that my hair had solidified into a moss-green heap. I was afraid that this would be the color of my hair (the color seemed a bit green after an initial washing). Long story long, the green did wash out, and my hair ended up a very dark brown color. :) It took a couple of washings to get the product out (I ran a q-tip through my scalp to check for residue).

    Effect:
My primary purpose was to cover the gray. This product doesn't make your gray hair into the same color as the rest of your head, but it does turn the gray into a brownish-auburn color, giving it somewhat of a highlighting effect. The Caca Brun actually turned my hair into a darker color than it normally is, so I may try going a shade lighter next time. It's only been a month since I've henna'd my hair, so I can't attest to its longevity, aside from my observation that it still looks good so far.

    Conclusion:
It gets messy, and cleaning your bathroom afterwards is a pain. If possible, I would suggest eliciting help from someone who can separate your hair/help apply, whom you feel comfortable naked with! If you want a natural effect for a fraction of the cost of a good salon, it's worth a go. But be prepared to put in the work!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

This stuff is amazing! I wanted to try henna for a while, but I didn't have the time/couldn't find the right color. It may sound odd, but I wanted to darken my already pretty dark brown hair. I looked all over for something that would work, because I wanted it to look natural, not some helmet of blue-black hair (not what I was going for). After much searching, I decided to try henna. I didn't want something bright red, but tiny red highlights would be nice (more mahogany than auburn).

Lush henna seemed like the right choice, so I bought it and began at home. First of all, it is MESSY. They recommend you chop it up into big chunks, but I thought smaller would be better (think popped popcorn sized) and then set up the double boiler. We (my mom and I) actually made it too thick, so next time we're going to make it thinner (otherwise it doesn't have enough moisture). Then we slathered it on my hair (got a LOT on the towels and in the general kitchen area, so much so we finished outside) and wrapped it in plastic. At the recommendation of the shopping assistant, I kept it wrapped for a bit, and then let it out in the air (about 3 hrs and 1 hr respectively). Rising it out takes a long, long time, and it gets the shower pretty gross, but nothing water won't rise down the drain. Boy was I glad I did this! The color was absolutely perfect and so soft and silky!

(I would have given it 5 stars, but the process of chopping it up and getting it in my hair was difficult and time consuming, but don't let that deter you! It's completely worth it :D )

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I dyed my hair two days ago using the henna - this was the first time dying my hair in about four years. I have shunned chemical dyes because it seemed like a never-ending cycle - dye hair, hair looks nice for a bit, starts to fade, looks faded, and time to re-dye! Also I sometimes think chemical dyes look too shiny, in an unnatural way, plus...It's chemicals! Anyhow, I went to lush for the first time this past week and the hennas looked too interesting to not buy. Used it the next day. I put the henna (about 3 little blocks) in a sturdy plastic bag and took a hammer to it - EASIEST WAY TO GET IT INTO A POWDER! Only took a minute. I used an old, large-ish coffee mug for the mixture (it held enough to dye my whole head, used wooden chopsticks to stir it, and put the mug in a sink halfway filled with hot water to keep it warm. Worked well, all in all. Somewhat messy when applying to my head (while wearing rubber gloves of course!), but not too bad - most of the dye droplets fell back into the sink anyway. Covered all of my hair (which is about rib-length), put it up on my head, wrapped it, cleaned up the bathroom, waited 3.5-4 hrs, washed it out (yes there will be some flaky remnants left over that are hard to wash out on first wash), and dried it. Looks good! 100% of my hair was my natural hair to start - a basic brown color with natural highlights. I was happy that my highlights still look like highlights - although they are now a more auburny shade. The rest of my hair looks richer in color and a little darker. I didn't want too big of a change so, I think it came out just how I was expecting it to! Since I only used half of it, I still have half left, so 2 applications for [$], isn't too bad in my opinion. Overall, good product - the smell isn't that bad by the way! Just earthy :)

I love Lush's hennas! I've used the brun multiple times but always forget to leave a review! I dont remember exactly how I do it, but I always leave it on 5-8 hours to get the deepest color possible and it always turns out absolutely gorgeous :) Not only is the color beautiful, but the soft, shininess of my hair alone after caca'ing it makes it all worth it. It is time consuming but I always do it late at night and then just sleep in it so I dont really lose much time. I wrap my head in saran wrap and then a towel and am able to sleep without it getting on anything.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

After years of salon colours, I was about to start using home colour (of the chemical variety) to save money.
When buying bath products at the Lush store, I was convinced (easily) to try the Caca Brun. The girl in the store talked about how she had recently coloured her hair using the Noir and it really worked.
I did a lot of research first.
        My method:
        - I used a sharp kitchen knife to shave the block of henna. I have thick, wavy, frizzy long hair (about bra-strap length down my back); I used 4 of the 6 squares and had a little leftover.
        - I did the 'double boiler' method.
        - Added about 3 teaspoons of ground cinnamon and about 2 tsps of extra virgin olive oil.
        - Kept stirring with a wooden spoon until it was super-smooth.
        - Transferred some of the mixture to a plastic sauce bottle to get right into the roots where my greys were. This probably wasn't entirely necessary.
        - Applied it in sections and wound each section into a little bun to save me from tangling problems.
        - Put a shower cap on, used cling-film around the base of my neck to cover it right up, wrapped an old scarf around the whole lot.
        - Left it for about 4+ hours.
-Rinsing was a nightmare but I stood at the kitchen sink for 20 mins rinsing it til it ran clear-ish. (Stainless steel sink meant no stains in the bathroom as others warned about, but when applying it, I found it cleaned up fine from the porcelain bathroom sink and tiles on the floor... yes, I had newspaper down!)
        - Applied quite a bit of conditioner to soften it all up some more, rinsed again.
        - Waited for my hot water to heat up again and then had a shower, washing it with mild shampoo and conditioner.
        - Gently blow-dried in sections. Instantly noticed it was softer and shinier.

Result is not too far from my natural shade. Perhaps a bit richer brown. There is a slight red tinge which I like.

This has covered my grey hairs and also helped boost my faded ends that were splitting and breaking. The colour always fades really quickly there.

After drying and a quick straighten, my hair is soft, shiny, the colour is lifted and I am really happy with it.

Preparation and time is the key.

I think this product might not be good for drastic changes in colour. If I was blonde, I would not use it! I think the results seem to be too variable.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

used the marron last time, i am a natural blonde and it made my hair go a funky dark reddish purple color. i didnt mind it in fact i thought it was kinda fun, but was really trying for a more natural color... so once my roots started showing and it washed out to a strawberry blonde color( took a few months... ) i decided it was time for a new color :) used 3 blocks of brun and 1 block of marron. boiled water on the stove and put my chopped up henna in another bowl and set that in the boiling water (the boiling water didnt get inside my henna bowl) then i proceeded to add a separate cup of boiling water to my henna and mixed it till it was like... a little thicker than yogurt, so alot thicker than they tell u too. it always gives me a better color(richer and shinier) when i make it thicker. so, i put all of that into my hair, wrapped very tightly in cling wrap, and had a movie day :) left it in for 5 1/2 hours. rinsed it out which took awhile. using just conditioner (alot of it) works really well, but took about 20 mins. so rinsed it out, i dont like to shampoo right after cause im afraid of messing with the setting in process, so i wait 12 hours till i shampoo. it is now 24 hours later and my strawberry blonde, dry frizzy hair is now a gorgeous medium auburn color. it looks completely natural this tim (thank god) and my frizzy waves turned into silky curls :) love this stuff and will do it again in a few months

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I have long asian black hair interspersed with 15% grey. I've used every kind of hair color in the market and my hair color has varied from reds to browns to black. Since my hair is dry and damaged from multiple processing, I wanted to see if an all natural product could give me the same grey coverage. First thing I did wrong was not using the caca rouge first. Apparently only red henna adheres to grey hair and you need it as a base layer! I found this out the hard way after talking to a LUSH chat representative and 6 hours of trying to dye my grey later...Basically, if you don't start with caca rouge, you won't be able to get any of the darker indigo based henna to stay on your grey (that includes caca marron, brun, and noir). So dark haired ladies with grey hairs, be aware so that you don't make the same pricey mistake I did.As for the process of using it...it wasn't too arduous to shave the bar into slivers with a knife. I mixed enough to make it a runny yogurt like consistency, used it while it was WARM (again v. impt) and kept it on for 2 hours the first round and 4 hours the second time. It was a mess to wash off and I ran out of hot water long before I could get all the product off my hair. I ended up having to give my tub a good scrub too. The resulting color is very natural and has a lot of depth in it. The texture of my hair feels great. The only minus comes from not using the rouge first. My greys are a very very light coppery color which makes it less noticeable than white...but still noticeably light. This double process of dying will take a lot longer than your usual drug store brand (probably 6-8 hours total) and cost about four times more ([$] for 2 bars instead of $10 for one box of clairol)but the upside is that you do no damage to your hair. I wish Lush would make this a little more affordable. I will have to put this into the luxury category as it is time consuming and definitely not cheap.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

After mulling over this purchase for at least a week, I kicked myself...never in my life have I been so indecisive about coloring my hair. It is the first time I've used henna dye- but I figured my hair takes well to chemical dye so it has to do even better with henna, right?

It did take a while to prepare the stuff- cutting it down to tiny little pieces, and already I could see what kind of mess this was going to be. I decided to just use regular boiling tap water to mix, no coffee or tea or anything like that- just the dye and the water.

It mixed very nicely, I think it helped that I shaved 3 of the squares very finely. The directions don't note to do that- well, really, the directions don't say diddly squat about how to really use the product.

Anyway, I put a towel down on the floor- however, some dye kinda plopped on the floor (but I got it up right away so it was no big deal). What I didn't think about was washing my hands periodically through the process...so I ended up with super GREEN hands at first, that over time faded to a purpley blueish color...super cute, right? Not! My fault though, I forgot to pick up gloves..so word to the wise, USE GLOVES!!!! They are still blue a day later!

The application was easy enough, I almost felt like I was twisting dreads, but it made it a lot easier to know where I had applied the dye and where I hadn't. I have about shoulder length hair and the 3 squares ended up being the absolute perfect amount! Afterwards, I grabbed a plastic bag and suffocated that dye! I knew my boyfriend was going to hate the smell so I did it as fast as I could and then wrapped a towel around it. He was not fooled, however- and actually slept on the couch because it was so rank to him (I didn't really mind it, way way better than those chemical dye smells)

I left it on from 9PM - 5:30 AM. In hind sight I would have applied it later in the evening and woke up earlier to take the bag off and let it dry a little more- maybe helping out the top layers that were the most washed out, soak up that extra bit of dye. Because it was still moist in the morning, it was actually really easy to get out! I just hopped in the shower, no big chunks or anything...I must have found a great consistency! I used a normal amount of conditioner and then just did a quick shampoo/condition to get the last bits of residue out of my hair and TA-DAAAA!

It absolutely covered my washed-out brassy nasty color that my hair faded to. I am hoping that the blue and green undertones will help prevent it from turning that color but I will not be washing my hair for at least 2 days to make sure that the color is super set in there...green/blue hair isn't really what I'm looking for at the moment.

My hair started off super light brown from fading, and came out a gorgeous chocolatey chestnut with some light brown and reddish flecks. Fantastico if you ask me!

If you are on the fence, and it's been at least a few months since your last chemical dye... DO IT!! Just, DO IT! :)

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I wanted a natural product that would turn my mousy hair a nice dark brown colour without damaging it and without passing any of those nasty chemicals onto my new baby. I googled and even tried a home made mixture of strong coffee (which did nothing except make me smell like I had a new job in starbucks and wasnt very good at it...) and then finally tried henna. I went for the brun as I didn't really fancy going too red. The first time I left it on an hour before a party and after rinsing and rinsing I dried my hair, only to discover that it was still actually full of the stuff. I definately needed to shampoo it out! After a very quick rewash, the colour was hardly any different. Shinier yes but not what I expected. I tried again with more time on my hands! I grated the henna this time with the cheese grater (chopping it was a nightmare) and added hot water until it was the right texture. I then piled it onto my shoulder length hair. I put old towels down but it didn't actually make any mess. Wrapped it in cling film and left it on for about 3 or 4 hours. This time when I washed it out the colour was a nice reddish brown, incredibly shiny and felt and looked thicker and healthier. I have used it a few more times since and the colour has now gone too a deep brown with a slight reddish hint. I don't really want it to go much darker now so maybe I'll ty the marron! But I do love the way may hair is now. My hairdresser comments everytime how great it looks.

I love this product! I have really long hair and getting my hair professionally done is about a $150 to $200 trip, so when I saw this at my Lush store I flipped! I originally have a dark chestnut colored hair and it get's a little boring sometimes, so I decided that I would look awesome in a dark red hair color.I bought the Caca Marron and followed everything step by step (and yes it is messy, but they do give you fair warning in their instructions)I also used coffee instead of water (to make it a bit darker) and added about 2 table spoons of paprika (to make it redder).3 hours of waiting and some 30 minutes of washing out the henna I had this gorgeous dark red hair!It was so soft and so shiny, and this was just washing it out and blow drying my hair! This color lasted me about 3.5 months, in the summer, out in the sun all day long! So for [$] and a couple hours catching up on my reading I got to have a gorgeous hair color that all my friends and co-workers envied. Bottom line? Totally worth it!

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I had to get my hair bleached from my natural dark brown to blond for a show I was in recently. I HATED it. The process took 2 hours and cost over $100, and then it didn't even do a good enough job, so I had to sit through another hour of spraying my hair with blond hairspray. Then, I realized on a date with my boyfriend that we were getting weird looks because while he was obviously in his early 20s, my hair in that lighting looked GRAY. Tbat was it.
There was almost none of the mess I'd heard about with Lush hennas. I used a grater to grate the henna into a bowl; when some spilled out of the bowl, I just scooped it up. I tore holes in a garbage bag and used it as a smock, so nothing got on my clothes. The paste was messy, but with gloves I didn't get it anywhere I didn't want it. Wrapped my head in plastic, let sit for a few hours, then shampooed out. Really, it was quite painless. And I personally like the smell. It's the smell of henna - grass, herby, a little coffee or tea. It's not bleachy, that's what I care about. Gets an A+ in my book.

Comments about LUSH Caca Brun Mama:

I used the Lush hennas with great success for about 3 years. First I used the red and marron, but because they don't cover gray all that well and I was getting more grey I switched to brun. I used it for a year, dyeing about every month. Because this one contains indigo you really need to be careful. After a year I ended up with very black shoe polish ends where the dye cumulatively deposited. It was a choice between cutting off lots of my hair or going to a salon for a corrective color job. I have not been much of a fan of salon processing in my life and that's why I liked the hennas so much -- that said, my hair looked like goth hell. It took SEVEN hours with a very high volume bleach to lift the hair to a dyeable color and really what it turned was a sort of robin's egg blue. It was indeed difficult to dye over -- the green-blue tinge is still there -- and of course using that level of chemical on the hair for so long fries it. So I would advise anyone who has anything but boy-short hair to be careful with this particular color henna. The red and marron hennas stick to hair too, but at least they're a manageable reddish base color that could conceivably be dyed over if needed.
