a) What do you do at home to be green?

I turn off the lights when I leave a room and wash my clothing in cold water. Also 90% of the light bulbs in my house are energy efficient. Not only is better for the environment but my electric bill is less, leaving me with more money to buy my favorite LUSH products.

b) What do you do outside your home to be green?

I either take public transit (mostly in the winter) or ride my motorcycle. The motorcycle is a great alternative to a car since it has much lower fuel consumption. I also try to walk as much as possible. It’s great exercise, plus it’s better for the environment -- a double whammy!

I always make sure to have a re-usable bag with me. I usually throw one into my gym bag before leaving the house. This way I am always prepared for a trip to the grocery store. I hate it when plastic bags pile up and take over the area under my sink. Plus, canvas bags can hold more , and heavier stuff , so when I am walking home from the store I don’t have to worry about the bag breaking.

c) How do you inspire others to be green (friends, family, your network)?

I like to let other people know that they are probably doing a bunch of green things already without even realizing it, such as turning off the water when they brush their teeth or bringing their own stainless steel coffee mugs to work. By pointing out their “accidental” green efforts it reinforce the point that it is super simple to be green. I try to lead by example and spread the word. Word of mouth is a very powerful messaging tool. I am a firm believer that if everyone did a little something everyday, the environment would be in much better shape!

d) Are you currently involved in a green non-profit organization?

No, but I am interested in David Suzuki Foundation and plan to donate the prize money to this organization.

Note: You do not have to be affiliated or involved with a charity. You just have to be actively green.

I chose this green non-profit because it doesn’t just focus on one environmental problem; it focuses on many such as global warming, ocean and global conservation. This organization also promotes things you can do to remain carbon neutral. This green issue is a big one for me, since I try to actively reducing my carbon emissions on a daily basis.

e) Which category does your cause fit into?

Other: The David Suzuki Foundation fits into all five categories…see why I chose this one?

f) What is your green wish?

My green wish would be for the world to be less reliant on oil. I wish there were more alternatives, such as eco friendly fuels. The hybrid car is good start but we something a little more economically feasible. This always brings me to the question: Whatever happened to the electric car?

g) What is your favorite quick and easy green tip to share with others?

Unplug cell phone chargers when you’re not using them; they still use power when plugged in.
